August 1, 2019 – The Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (ACOM) welcomed its largest class of students to date on July 22 for new student orientation week. With 192 students, the ACOM Class of 2023 represents 26 states, with over 53 percent of students coming from Alabama, Florida and Georgia.
During orientation, students attended several information sessions and a local vendor fair sponsored by Women’s Medical Center, as well as a welcome breakfast and golf scramble at Robert Trent Jones Highland Oaks golf course. Students also participated in a community service activity sponsored by Eye Center South, in which teams packed 2,900 backpacks for school-age children in Early and Seminole counties in Georgia. This activity was particularly meaningful in not only emphasizing ACOM’s core value of service and the importance of team collaboration, but also providing much needed aid to residents in Southwest Georgia affected by Hurricane Michael.
The 2019-2020 academic year is now underway with classes beginning on Monday, July 29.
