September 3, 2019 – The Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (ACOM) is pleased to announce that MaryAnn May, PhD, has been named Director of Campus Safety. In this role, Dr. May will plan and direct ACOM’s safety and security strategy, and oversee all of the college’s security operations, including disaster preparedness, Clery Act reporting and emergency response.
Dr. May has an extensive background in safety and security within educational settings, including eight years in higher education. Most recently, she served as Chief Facilities Officer for Broward County Public Schools and Chief Fire Official for Broward County School Board in Florida, where she was responsible for establishing, promoting and maintaining safe conditions for all students and employees. Her previous positions include Fire and Life Safety Specialist at Auburn University, manager in the safety department for Broward County Public Schools and corporate safety director for Anderson News.
Dr. May received her Bachelor of Science in occupational safety and health from Columbia Southern University. She received her master’s degree and PhD in adult education from Auburn University.
Dr. May began her position at ACOM on August 30, 2019.
