Melinda Carter, MD, PhD, serves as Associate Professor of Anatomy. Dr. Carter obtained her PhD in biological anthropology from the University of Chicago and earned her MD from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. Her research interests include morphologic variability in the human skeleton (chemical, anatomical, and pathological), US state laws that protect the handling of human skeletal remains, and the osteological basis of osteopathic manipulative therapy. She assists law enforcement and the Montgomery Medical Examiner’s Office with forensic cases and is developing educational opportunities that explore medicolegal issues in modern health care. Dr. Carter also loves animals, has been a percussionist all her life, and enjoys painting, drawing, and mountain biking.
