Southeast Health

Southeast Health is the region’s largest health system, which includes the Medical Center, Medical Group, Foundation, Statera Network and the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (ACOM).

Southeast Health is governed by the Houston County Health Care Authority (HCHCA). The Authority is a 13-member volunteer board with 12 members appointed by the Houston County Commission. The 13th member is the current president of the medical staff.

The Medical Center, established in 1957, is a 420‑bed regional referral hub serving more than 460,000 residents. It is one of four certified Comprehensive Stroke Centers in Alabama and is recognized as a Level II Trauma Center and Chest Pain Center. Southeast Health also operates the region’s only Level III NICU and its only inpatient Pediatric Unit.

The Medical Group is the region’s largest network of primary care and specialty clinics.

The Foundation, governed by a volunteer board, was established in 2006 and serves as the system’s philanthropic arm supporting programs and services designed to advance healthcare in the region.

The Statera Network is the system’s population health entity established in 2015 with a group of physicians to optimize patient outcomes at the most efficient cost.

ACOM is the academic arm of the health system established in 2013 to educate some of the brightest minds and address the physician shortage in this region. ACOM is governed by a nine-member board of directors, which consists of representatives from the HCHCA and the Alabama Medical Education Consortium, which includes public members. In addition, the ACOM President and Southeast Health’s Chief Financial Officer serve ex-officio as non-voting members.

ACOM also established an advisory board that offers a leadership perspective on the strategic direction of the college while also serving as a liaison to the community. The advisory board is made up of five community leaders, two members of the dean’s administrative team and the chair of the ACOM Board of Directors.
